It has been brot up in a few threads. I beleave that a user should be able to set his or her own smtp server settings. Some free hosting do not offer smtp. phpbb has it and it works well. You can eather set it to look at the php.ini or look at the custom settings.

I have this problem too.
I'm hoping for a custom mail smtp server option.
Is there not even a mod to allow this? Many people (like me) are stopped for using MyBB for this issue.
There's no mod as far as I'm aware of. But i shouldn't be to hard to include a smtp class like
PHPMailer into the my_mail function in inc/functions.php.
Maybe for a future release. (hint
