I'm thinking of purchasing this dedicated server (computer) for my website.

Would it be good?

Bandwidth will be handled by me, I'm talking about the specs.
Can you get it without the three-d card and DVD-burner? If so it looks good to me, but I don't know much about servers. :p
You would be better off with something like these:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboBundl...mbo.468625
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboBundl...mbo.472963

Which doesn't have an optical drive at all (you BORROW one temporarily to install the OS), has only basic video capability, and nothing fancy. Yet has POWER. Plus you don't need a LOT of power really when it comes down to it. I run my web/mysql server on an 800MHz Duron CPU with 256MB of RAM and an old 3COM 10/100 NIC... and I have 0 issues with it. And the ones I listed above are a heck of a lot cheaper too Wink Of course you DO put them together yourself.

More DIY deals on Newegg (In case you're hell bent on an i5 or i7 CPU)

Dude, i run 13 websites on a pentuim 3 with 256mb of ram. Overkill is an understate ment with server, if your only planning on having one or two sites.

Also yes i do use smart alternitives, like no apache or MySQL. Replace them with something better. Like Cherokee or Hiawatha in replace of apache, and postgresql* or sqlite in replace of MySQL. (I have no idea how light PGSQL actually is, just naming one i know.)

I have no argument with that except that a LOT of softwares only support MySQL out of the box... and I hate re-writing their db routines to be portable.
* Dylan M. slaps you with the OKO script I worked on Wink

Well the server that is on is much stronger then what i am talking about.

(thats a dual core on a p4 if i remember correct)

But as i said if its just for MyBB and a blog, my idea works well.

True enough, and for lightweight I love Hiawatha Big Grin

If you want a server then I recommend buying a server, not a desktop.

If your hosting at home, racks can be quite a pain to actually have. (If that is what you are getting at)
No not the case itself, I mean server-grade hardware + redundancy.
