Just use
http://tortoisesvn.net/ and then ask it to grab the files. Never used it before but that is stated in the wiki. :p

Just need simply download files. Do I really have to use somekinda unfamiliar developer tool.
Here is a zip for the 1.4 version. Note that it is from the SVN and it is correct at time of creation (25/08/2010).

What can I do with that knoledge? Should I treat file somehow differently than 1.6 merger now?
Well as it is in a branch new code could be added at any time. But the merger is outdated anyway so that probably won't happen.
All you need to do is run the merger for XMB after that has happened you will no longer need the merger files anyway.
