It won't be mod_security if it's 1.6.
A 500 error is a very generic error, could mean anything. Check your server's error logs and see what they say.

I did opened a support thread but they said that:
Such settings are server-wide and cannot be adjusted on a per-account basis.
Also, it seems that the error is gone now but I'll still watch out for it
