OK, I am finding my own answers to my previous post about creating a linear threaded view: http://community.mybb.com/thread-77455.html
It is becoming appearant I will need to heavily modify showthread.php in the sections that build the linear and threaded views, and I have already scoped out some strategies for accomplishing my goals (see link above) .
My question is, should I modify showthread.php, or is this doable as a plugin - creating an alternative linear and threaded view?
