I am at a loss, how can i fix this?
In your ftp right click on the cache directory and click "File Attributes" or something similar, and you can set the CHMOD settings from there. Also do that for /cache/themes/
ok I tried this and its still giving me this error.

my forum shows up white and no images.

Have you managed to succesfully change the CHMOD on ./cache and ./cache/themes ?

Also make sure the folders inside ./cache/themes are 777 and the files inside those folders are 644

Yup the great folks at http://www.audentio.com/ took care of it for me. seems a file was missing when I tried to add a plug in. those folks sure do know there stuff, had me up and running in no time.
How could you be adding plugins if you were on the installer...?? Plus plugins wouldn't have any effect on the folders it said needed CHMODing.
