How do I add vertical text to the side of the forum ?

I don't understand what you mean.

The only thing on the link is a sidebox down the right hand side. If that's not what you're after then can you please rephrase or provide a screenshot of what you want to achieve.

You see this bg image correct? The text is vertical saying ChiCitySports, I would like to make something similar...

Okay, I don't see that anywhere on the link you posted previously.

You'll need to make an image to fit the width of your forum and set it as the background image as I explained before.
