I'm not sure how to word this, but there seems to be bots specifically registering on MyBB ran forums. Now I've not come across any sort of messages/posts or anything from these bots but I have reCAPTCHA III running (2 captcha's for registration) and yet these bots are making it onto my forum.

For example, the latest bot to sign up on my forums goes by the name "sammieayers7" and a quick google search turned this up. Nothing but forum registrations (mostly in the past 2 days) and ALL of them MyBB forums.

This is the 3rd bot account this month I've had to ban. Is this typical of any forum? (I never had this behavior in phpbb3) so I'm unsure.
We are experiencing the same problem at forum.pplware.com.

This is a new kind of spam identified by Google in one of its blog posts, see this.

I think that MyBB team are disregarding security aspects in terms of protections against spam bot. Without any protection against for instances "proxies", few things can be done to protect against this threats.

In fact, we are having a real hard time dealing with them (three or four of these fake profiles register each day because our forum has a good rank).

A plugin developed by the mybb team for Bad Behaviour (an highly effective Spam Protector), could do the trick.

Akismet can't address this issues.
Interesting.

The bots I've ran into so far (only 3) have been

lcolletteconways - Registered 08-31-2010
abilliestaffordn - Registered 09-04-2010
sammieayers7 - Registered 09-08-2010

Looks like every 4 days a new bot registers on my forums looking at this data. I surely hope security isn't on the back burner. I put so much time and effort into my community that some security exploit that can possibly cause trouble would be devastating to me.
I have the same issues, I'm going to try to add a human verification to the site. I've gotten these bots.

is it just me or the devs don't care about this issue?

I've never seen a lead developer discussing this mybb flaw
I had the same problem
a bot register and post automatically (I believe) about some stupid medicine
but i banned that
need to come up with a solution

Thanks, but this is not a MyBB 1.6 compatible plugin and I'm weary of changing the version in the php as it doesn't always work.

Changing the version will work

Ok, if you say so I will make the change and install. Thank you very much for finding this, it looks promising!
