I was a long time vbulletin user (hope i'm allowed to say that in here). I have had probably around 6-8 licenses for that product during my online lifetime... done many crazy integrations with various web properties and truly did appreciate it's functionality and interface... but when their new pricing structure came out, I knew it was time to move on.
I honestly didn't think I would be able to find a suitable replacement - let alone FREE. I tried one after another after another until I finally hit gold with MyBB. Hands down, this has the cleanest interface, the most functionality and is just an all around solid product. It is the only one that I have found that i would truly consider an equivalent replacement.
So I just wanted to come in here and say "cheers" to the developers and community involved with MyBB.. i am incredibly happy that I found it.
