Full Version: CAPTCHA can go so far, but what about a question asked in registration?

I've seen this primarily in vBulletin and phpBB forums. To prevent spambots from attacking, rather than using a CAPTCHA, why not ask a question?

Example:
Q: Who developed Rock Band, along with Guitar Hero 1 and 2?
A: Harmonix

You'd basically give them a question and a little fill-in box with the answer. This is more unique than a CAPTCHA and can thus beat out a bot better.
I had no idea who developed rock band.
The actual question is irrelevant (it was just an example). It's the plugin that's important. Besides, it could be a simple question for all I care.
I could've sworn there is a plugin for this?
Really? I have never seen it.
Lex- made a plugin that does what you're asking:

Thanks, didn't know about that one. Too bad it's a subscriber's plugin.
Most bots can't get past captcha; the spammers that are a problem are human, and this won't stop them.
I have an idea that could sorta work.

Most Captcha focus on the word, or the saying, why not its grammar?

If there is one thing i have noticed, its that the human ones don't speak english well, mostly grammar wise.

Maybe having one with a sentence like

"To VERify you ARE not a SPaMbot, CopyTHIS image into Text"
That being an image.
Just as long as we can create our own questions, then it wouldn't matter.
