Edit: As I thought. Chris didn't get round to fixing it (the code tags dont stop it from parsing.). Apparently the whole thing need to be done again, and should be fixed in gold hopefully.

The reason behind this is so we can support unicode messages on the forum.. Harmful characters such as & > & lt; are all parsed out to their values.

How are any of the HTML entities (&blah; or { ) harmful? :-\\
Bleh, I meant to say unhtmlspecialchar'ed &'s, <'s and >'s are harmful
