Try deactivating the default profile plugin, or any others that change the registration process
This is quite simply a bug in MyBB, I think. It does not even work here on mybb.com...
Try changing the text in the language file from ...&uid= to ...&referrer= that seems to do the trick.

I guess you should report it as a MyBB bug since you discovered it.
You discovered it, you report it. I don't even use referrthings anywhere.
