i am skinning and tuning my forum, FRESH installation of 1.6 version.
i have created the categories and the forums.
but actually, if i try to open a forum to post a thread it simply opens a 404 error page...
what have i done wrong?
Have you renamed htaccess.txt to .htaccess ?
URL?
Does your host support mod_rewrite??
the etnire mybb folder is CHMODded 777...
what now?

I don't know why you've set them all to 777, but that won't have an effect on this anyway.
Are you 100% the file is called .htaccess and not htaccess.txt?? There's only so many things that can go wrong with this...
Quick fix if you're not bothered about the search engine frindly URL's:
ACP >> Configuration >> Server and Optimization Options >> Enable search engine friendly URLs?
Change the dropdown to Disabled.
Can you post the contents of you .htaccess file here?

it was a matter of friendly URLs.
being them, according to what i have read, more search engine friendly, in which way should i modify the .htaccess file to have everything wokring?
