can u please tell how can I change the author of a a particular post.
means it need a plugin... not a core feature of MyBB??

It is not core.
Don't know why something like this would need to be a core feature really.

I also thought it would be a core feature when i newly started to use MyBB 2 years back (total n00b)
This feature is indeed not needed as core.
may be u all are right... but actually not much needed in core....
but actually it is quite useful at times as phpbb3 had in its core and we are used to use it. That's why asked.
I hope to see it as a core feature
I don't think this is really needed as core, how many times will you need to change the author of a post?? Only a handful of people have ever suggested it.
