Actually that's not too bad of an idea. One of the sites I admin has a "Spam Thread" which is meant for things that users want to say but don't quite deserve their own thread, and there's no topic so conversation can flow however it wants.
The only problem is the mods have to keep a close eye on it...

@topic: I got rid of facebook. I find it funny now that the Montreal court sentanced him to pay, facebook goes down.
I never noticed it went down. I don't spend that much time on there unless i get a notification or want to chat with someone.
I'm probably gonna stop using it once I get my wordpress setup completely.
