I figured I could edit user's details and then to get him into a certain group

is this the only / easiest way ?

You could make yourself a group leader, and go into User CP --> Group Memberships and click on the Member List of your group, and add users that way.

if im admin, can't i do the same with-

You have to make yourself a group leader before you can see the group on the list "The Groups You Are Leader Of" on that page (UserCP --> Group Memberships)

isn't there an easier way, like in phbb (i dont like comparing but..)?
