Just open it in a text editor like Notepad++ ??
Or via your host's control panel file manager ??

I think I must edit portal.php in note pad or in just in cpanel.
But I don't get the sense of

It doesn't need that sort of file path... what have you actually currently got $forumdir set to in portal.php?? It shouldn't need to be anything different than ./ which is what it is to begin with...
