Hi,

I want the forum configured so users only see 1 forum and they can only start new threats. No multiple forums, no categories....

Should I just wrtie an htaccess or something so the site is always redirected to that 1 forum I setup? Or is there a better way?

just set up the permissions so they can just view and start new threads but not post replies

You can set it up so the default new users group can only see 1 forum.
After they make 1 or more post, they're promoted into a different users group which gains more access to the other forums.

I think he wants the forum index to be the site index, though

Cool suggestion, you can do it via Promotion System
