i've looked around for hours and couldn't find how to do this.
where do i go to change the forum icons? i tried going into the global template but couldn't find were the original ones were...
also, is there any way i can put an image into the themes background?
Just replace on.gif, off.gif and offlock.gif in your themes image folder.
To add a background image, add something like this to the
body in your themes global.css:
background: #efefef url(http://somesite.com/images/backgroundimage.gif);
What about changing the background of the header? I am at avbbf.com - if you just go to the front page, it is the Ocean theme with that solid color in the background of the header behind the white logo. It'd be nice to put a picture there.

You mean cover the whole header with a picture?
At the top, there is that awful blue/aqua/green "whatever" two tone color behind the white banner. I could either keep the white banner there and replace the "whatever" color behind it with a picture or I could just create a picture with the white banner over it and upload that.
