i have no idea if someone already discussed about it, actually i am dotnet developer and have less experience in php, i saw in phpbb forum, they have multiple captcha support in their forum while we have just one default, and for this user always looking to avoid auto bot registration.

second there should be question at the time of registration.
for reference please refer this link

although this is not developed in php but this is just for reference what mybb should have to solve user's problem.
I think Mybb also lacks a mod that can allow you to ask a question with 1 correct answer on the registration page. Will not let 1 bot pass.
i agree, my mentioned link is suggested the same technique, asking a quesiton from user on registration, because daily users ask about the solution of auto registration but no one is satisfied yet including me, i admit we cant stop spammer but we can minimize them by providing more enhancement on registration page.

This is pretty far from the truth. Especially when the latest fad seems to have humans do the registration and then have a bot come back to do all the posting.
re-captcha cut 80% of the spam bots out for me. The rest that still sign up i assume are people but they don't spam posts.
