My board is:

My cookie settings are:
$settings['bburl'] = "http://forums.theaboveworld.net";
$settings['cookiedomain'] = ".theaboveworld.net";

I can login to the forum normally, and do stuff without being logged out.
However, I can't stay logged into the Admin CP.

Set the cookie domain to .forums.theaboveworld.net

Nope, doesn't even let me log in/out of the forum with that.
I already tried that though.

What's the cookie path set to?? Is the ./inc/settings.php file set to 666??

Set your cookie path to the name of your forums folder
eg
/forums/

What is the CHMOD of ./inc/settings.php ??

I'm out of ideas, but since you have no forum created, you could just reinstall the whole thing again.
