It's not about it pulling it twice, it just needs to use the same value in more than one place. If it's using the setting it'd still be using the same value in more than one place so would be doing the exact same thing. All you're doing is changing it from using a setting, to using a hardcoded value, it won't break it by doing that. If you're getting an actual error message or white page, you'll be making an error in the code when making the change.
Have you made any other edits to this file?? I can upload an edited version of the file for you... it'd need to have the setting changed in all locations otherwise it may not work fully.
