Is there a plugin which there is a bar on your profile that tells you how many posts you have to get to get to the next title?

No. There is not a plugin like that.

There is a progress bar made by Mohammed (I think that was his username) at MyBBCentral a while back for 1.4.X. No idea what logic it users.

Why not just customize the start system? It could work well

Well that sucks :/. You could use the star system and put a play on images.

Here is how you'd do it.

In the template where the image exists, upload the ends of the bar. Then in the admin area, set say 10 stars for 100 posts, etc, and the bar grows each time, they automatically bump groups.

Install it, its working in 1.6 too.

If you want it as a progress bar for posts, just use the group promotions and set diffrent userbars for each level. I'm pretty sure that's possible. If not, then just use the percent images as stars, changing the star image per level.
