I currently run 1.4.14 and want to upgrade to 1.6.1

Should I just download the big 1.6.1-package from here:
http://www.mybb.com/download/latest

Then overwrite the old files and run the updater?
I think use Merger XD

Yes i belive that is all you need to do but back up file and database first incase something goes wrong and you need to revert back
Yes make sure you backup your database and current files first, and deactivate plugins. New package has to overwrite the old files, then run the upgrade script.
Thanks! All worked fine!
Please hit the solve button. Smile
Are the templates (themes) for 1.4 and 1.6 the same? Just thinking to upgrade, but w/o changing my current theme.
No, there are a lot of changes between 1.4 and 1.6. You won't be able to use your current theme without making changes to it.
Several updates have been added to the theme which give you more control over the stylesheet and appearance of your forum and the new features. For this reason, your theme is updated to work with MyBB 1.6 during the upgrade process.

The same applies with templates; you’ll need to use the “Find Updated Templates” on any custom templates to update them due to the fact that many of them have been updated.
