Quote:Use GZip Page Compression?
Do you want to compress pages in GZip format when they are sent to the browser? This means quicker downloads for your visitors, and less traffic usage for you.

That is an optimization setting in my 1.6 myBB forum. It sounds great and all, but by default it is OFF. Now I guess there's a reason for such. I am a bit unfamiliar with this compression technique, is it possible to have negative effects or something? Incompatibility with some modifications, or themes? I have a custom theme in my board...
The reason it's off by default is for three reasons.

1. Some old browsers don't support it.
2. Some servers don't support it. (Or won't allow it)
3. You get faster pages for the price more processor usage.
Most webservers do gzip compression by themselves, so you have to enable the setting only if your webserver does not do it for you automatically anyway.
Ah well, thanks, I will check.
