Hello,
I have recently been developing a review engine for web hosts that is powered by MyBB. Here is a question I'd like to pose to the MyBB community:
When you are looking for a new web host, what are your 5 most general and important qualifications and requirements?
For example, my top 5 (in no particular order) would be:
- Speed
- Uptime/Reliability
- Customer Service
- Price/Value
- Features Offered
What is in your top 5 list?
Sidenote: I am NOT looking web host recommendations in this thread. Please keep this on-topic.
How long the company have been established.
Whether live support is offered.
I check those before anything else.
Mine (again, in no particular order):
-The TOS (Look for obvious grammar errors, indicating that a child owns the host
)
-Hardware
-Hosting Server Software (to determine overselling capabilities)
-Support Staff/Forum activity
-Value for money (not necessarily the cheapest)
-Uptime/Reliability
I am still on the process of learning these
things such as web hosting, domain names,
seo, and more. This post has given me an idea
about web hosting and for me, this serves
as a good start.

Thanks, very valid points! Any other suggestions?

I would say it's a good list. But, really look at the TOS for stuff other than grammar errors. Like many resellers and even some vps providers don't allow you to use their service for free hosting. And, if you are looking at a host that really says they offer the world regarding space and bandwidth make sure you know the limitations that come with them.
On that note specifically, look for fair usage policies. Many "Unlimited" plans have a little clause in the FUP stating:
"Unlimited usage is restricted to XXXGB bandwidth per month"
Make sure you look out for that, or you could get some hefty costs!
