Question 1:
Anyone know if there is a free (open-source) version of this cool type of software?

**Also, passing through your own live streaming server or VPS, hosted in a 'real' data-center?

Allow you to stream for free. Don't really know of any software that does both streaming and viewing for free.

For screen recording I've always like fraps. It has a free version that leaves a watermark on the top (not huge but there) as well as a paid version.
