If you open up the source you will see that even mybb adds ?version to the end of the script.

What does it actually mean? The JS file isn't taking any arguments like that(nor support them? )

It's so when you go from something like 1.2 > 1.4 or 1.4 > 1.6, that number will change and your browser will recache the CSS, as the URL will be different.
