I want to know if its possible to put the avatar above the group image. Currently, the group images are stacked on top each other and then the avatar is on the bottom. Note that I do have this plugin that shows the group image of all the groups that user pertains to, but this isn't the problem since the primary group image is also above the avatar.

You mean in the classical postbit display? Where the author info is next to the post, right?

Search for postbit_classic in your templateset. Replace:

			{$post['groupimage']}
			{$post['useravatar']}<br />

with

			{$post['useravatar']}<br />
			{$post['groupimage']}
