I checked some IP address and are from Russia, but it's unique on every new registrations and the mails ale google.com most of the time Dodgy so i can't block that.
I was thinking that somebody will come with a solution to secure even more the registration process.

Works really well because bots don't recognize it. No i won't share how i did it, because then it would become common use, and bots will recognize it. Eventually they probably will , but i like to have as much time without bots before i have to come up with something new.. With a little understanding of php and html forms it's easy to make, just by looking how it looks at my forum.

It requires a few really minor edits to core files and some template edits, but it keeps the bots out, and my guest posters happy..

(Yes even with guest posting we have no botproblem)

I don't see how that would help the OP?

Maybe OP has a little understanding of php and html and can make something similar?

Like blocking entire countries will help... Spambots come from every country worldwide.. You gonna block them all? You block a country like the Netherlands (a country with a very active internet culture) based on a few hits?

There is more spam coming from the US.. did you block them too?

A better advice would be disallowing emailproviders like mail.ru etc. Or banning entire server hosts.. not an entire country..

I actually checked the spam bots I received today and found that a majority of them were from Russia. Also, I might revert the Netherlands block. Tell me, why would I receive 6,000 unique page views from Russia to a RuneScape forum? I doubt that's just some google traffic.

Yes also, I have blocked mail.ru.

Russia, romania, etc. will always give more spam traffic than others. Banning server hosts seems very effective combating that. Granted, a large part comes from normal connections, but a large part will come from dedicated servers, especially setup for that. Normal connections will never come from a server host... (besides proxies)

I am not sure if it helped my forum, but i also replaced the powered by mybb text with an image. This was allowed with 1.4.* Spambots usually search for phrases like "powered by:"
I haven't had any more bots join since installing Fassim Anti-Spam. Whether it has anything to do with it, I don't know, but it seems between it, reCAPTCHA and StopForumSpam, I'm secure for now.

My forums are English-speaking, and the community basically knows itself already (due to various problems we've had to restart a few times), so blocking registrations from Russia and China, I don't think, will be that detrimental. From what I know, people can still view the forum from those countries, just not register. Seems less troublesome than blocking email providers.
