I was thinking of merging some of my forums to one forum. I want to make subforums and put in the actual forums as they were.

To prevent users from jumping from one subforum to another i want one subforum to be 'general information' and accicible to all members. The subforums will only be accicible by the user being in the right usergroup.

I was wandering if there is a limit for the amount of usergroups a user can belong to?

No there is not. Only one can be the primary group though. However secondary groups are not limited.

The only limit is how much the additionalgroups column in the users table can hold, which is 200 characters by default. MyBB itself won't impose any limits on it.
