One more that I would suggest is Registration Security Question.
I was getting a good 4-5 users a day, but none of them were ever activating their accounts. After analyzing their email addresses and IP addresses, I realized that many of them are bots.
After installing this, I get about 1-2 users per day, but now they activate their accounts.
[edit]
I also installed reCaptcha 2 before installing Registration Security Question, but it didn't help. You can also then customize the questions to fit topics of your site.
For example, I run a Cocoa programming site, so I changed the questions so that they have to do with Cocoa and/or programming.

I find Template Conditionals to be extremely useful.

HOLY ADVERTISEMENTS BATMAN! That site is about worthless. The pop-ups/banners/ads make the site pretty much unuseable and out of the 10 plugins they recommend I think the vast majority of "real" forums would only use 2-3 of them at most.
