only if you have a backup
then you can selectively reimport the data of that forum
(tables forums, threads and posts, all rows with the fid that was deleted)

a database backup? or a forum backup?
I have a backup of both the forum and the mysql database...... What would be the best option for someone who did not know how to do this themselves?

Learn how to do it... it's not that hard and basic knowledge about databases and such comes in handy lots of times...
Alternatively find someone who does it for you. Downside is that you have to trust someone with your forum & database access...

I appreciate your help.......is there an appropriate forum here to seek help in fixing my mistake. I looked at the backup file and used your advice
The language is mind blowing. Right now my forum works..... it may not work when I go messing with it......
