Does anyone know how I may remove some of the default user groups?

You can't, if you really need to actually get rid of them for whatever reason, you'd have to delete them from the database, but it's not recommended and is fairly pointless really, if you don't need the groups, just don't use them for anything.
Hmm... Okay, Thanks. I'll name them something like "DoNotUse01" so my staff don't use them.
