Since I will be using MyBB for my virtual pet site when the site closes in 27 days for work to be done on V2 of the site I was wondering how would I make more staff levels and staff colours?

Would need like these

Admins
Moderators
Artists
Graphic Artists
Writers
maybe even Support Staff

You can add more usergroups.

Go to: ACP > Users and Groups > Groups > Add new usergroup > And fill in the options.

Would the other user groups still be able to be given access to a staff area where members can not get to?

Yes, just edit their forum permissions or make sure you select a staff usergroup to copy permissions from.

And you can specify in the group settings whether they will be listed on the team page, will have ACP or MOD-CP access.
