i guess these are custom templates, and they are probably in the global templates set,

Hmm, strange, he talks about finding <li><a href="$settings[bburl]/memberlist.php">$lang->toplinks_memberlist</a></li> in there, so I don't think it's a custom one.
But those are in header though.

which doesnt at all mean to find something in a template,rather it says find a template.
