I've requested a backup for my createmybb forum. But I'm wondering whether it's possible to convert createmybb to mybb. (I'm leaving them as they're horribly inactive)
I don't believe CreateMyBB gives out backups (unless you pay some ridiculous sum of money), but if you don't, it is not possible as their terms of service forbid you doing it. Undecided
They say they do. So I requested one. If they do. I'll sew 'em!
If they do give you a backup and you import it into another host or into XAMPP or WAMP or something like those on your local computer you should be able to just use the MyBB Merge System's MyBB module.

What's a XAMPP or WAMP? Where can I get those, and how do you upload your backup to them?
They are software to allow you to run some website related software on your computer (MyBB is an example).

Google Search:
XAMPP - http://www.google.co.uk/search?sourceid=...-8&q=XAMPP
WAMP - http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=W...s1&aql=&oq=

WAMP server though uses much newer versions of PHP/MySQL and MySQL 5.5 isn't supported in the latest MyBB version.
MyBB 1.6.3 will include support for MySQL 5.5, just FYI. Also the code change is pretty easy. Its on the tracker
