Hi all

I run a forum for book worms. I want to use portal as welcome page. But does it makes any difference for newbies ?

People who visit my forum, 90% are noobs and dont even know what a forum is. So if I keep portal as welcome page, is there any chance that user get confused or not get clear idea about forums ? will that make it clumsy and arise ambiguity ??

I personally hate portals, infact I actually deleted the portal file from my installation.

The majority of my users also voted against the portal as a start page.

I'm not a big fan for portals, even thinking back to the days when I was new to the forum scene. Personally, I think you would get more bang for the buck by having a sticky "Start here" posting.

Unless you have a good use for it, I'd say it's pretty useless.

I have never used the portal in MyBB, it's redundant imo. The only reason to have a portal is ... well, nothing. No reason to have one. If you need a front page, install Joomla or Wordpress and post information on it.
