By Changing Theme, if you to mean to Change theme to default or force to Users, then you can do this in ACP > Themes > Select Theme > Edit [Options] > And select "Force Users" and "Make this theme default".

im sorta confused. here this is a simpler way. What i mean is i want to download a new theme. now i have made a bunch of edits to my templates in that theme. if i set a new theme as default, will i have to edit the new templates again? (like do i have to edit the templates i editied in the old theme to the new theme?)

What i mean is i want to download a new theme. now i have made a bunch of edits to my templates in that theme. if i set a new theme as default, will i have to edit the new templates again? (like do i have to edit the templates i editied in the old theme to the new theme?)

Yes, you will need to make the edits to the new themes templates. Some themes have different code in the templates, so previous can't be added automatically.
