the few MYBB forums I am on have terrible spammers. They make accounts and have links all over them to something but is there a way to make it so they cant join? Like a captcha? I dont know if that will work or not, but just thought I would ask.

I wouldn't recommend reCAPTCHA. It's been recently cracked in a large scale. I personally prefer Q&A CAPTCHA, because since you define the question, bots won't be able to answer them as well.
