Anyone tell me why there is so much spamming going on? I updated finally and never had so many issues with spam registration until I upgraded to the current stable version.

If you aren't taking the right steps to prevent spam then you will probably have spam. Do you have Akismet installed? If you are using the quick register plugin you will get tons of spam members(just letting you know from personal experience).

Also the very first post that a member makes must be approved before appears on the board

Yes I have askmisk installed still and recopacha the better version like I have had with the 1.4.12

Also, I'd recommend the Security Question Plugin mentioned in this thread: http://community.mybb.com/thread-92886.html It works well!
