MyBB Activiation Email not sending.

If it doesn't goes fine then it would be your host issue. You then have to contact to your host.

can't find the string in inc/functions.php.. any idea?

Did you run the mail test script first? Did that work?

I'm not 100% sure, but I believe the line you are looking for is:

$mail->build_message($to, $subject, $message, $from, $charset, $headers, $format, $message_text, $return_email);

I would contact your host, and ask then why emails are not being sent.
