What's the referrer thing for in myBB?
And how exactly does it work?

If you have it enabled in your board, it's a referral system. It's when a present member of your board can tell others to register at your forum. When that new user tries to register, there would be a field down the bottom of the registration, where it will ask you if someone referred you to the board. If yes, they place the persons username and they go off as usual with the registration.

Yes, it should be stored in the Admin CP. This can only be viewed if you're an admin. Go to Users and Groups -> Search Users -> View statistics on this user -> Show users this member referred
