So I made a group for members with 50+ posts then set up a group promotions so it moves them from registered to the new group with the only criteria been 50+ posts. So after setting it up I ran the task, nothing happened, it didn't upgrade the users.

You need to reach 50 posts, did ya?
What's your Group promotions settings ? Can you please paste your group promotions settings page ?
Try to select;
Reputation Count = Greater Than
Referral Count = Greater Than
It will only upgrade users that were active in the past 24 hours
Make sure the users with less than 50 posts are actually in the "New members" group. By default MyBB will put new registered user in the Registered usergroup (group id 2). If you have renamed the registered user to the "new members" group, ignore my message

Okay this will work fine then as I have manually added them to the group and now any future members that reach 50 posts will be added. Thanks for the help everyone.
