Hi everyone,

I installed the shoutbox that someone gave me called "MyShoutbox":

http://mods.mybb.com/view/myshoutbox

My account was suspended twice on 2 different hosts because of it, it uses a lot of server resources, (xmlhttp.php file) and it's not professional at all...

If you're going to install a shoutbox, be sure to avoid that one, a complete mess, but thanks to whoever created it!

I can officially say that there's no professional shoutbox for MyBB!! Confused
MyShoutbox is easily the best shoutbox for MyBB. Unless you either have an awful host or a large amount of people using the chat, it won't get your site suspended. Either way, shoutboxes are pretty useless IMO

My first web host was HostGator and they were continally complaining about that script until they suspended it, my second one is very professional... The problem is from MyShoutbox, yes I have like 20 members using the shoutbox at the same time which isn't huge I think
1. Any shoutbox you use will use a hell of a lot of bandwidth.

2. A shoutbox defeats the whole point of a forum. Every shout that is made could be a post.

3. You can't really say any plugin is professional. They're simple addons. It's not like they are official plugins created by the developers and advertised with MyBB (Like vBulletin does with it's Blog addon).

Imo, you should either get a decent VPS that can handle the shoutbox, or go with a host that won't suspend you for using a shoutbox (Such as Tikolah.com)
No, that really isn't huge. Are you showing it on all pages or just in the header on the index? Showing it on all pages will obviously put strain on the server.
It is known that Shoutboxes and Chats require a lot of resources. PHP is not designed for such usage.
I built a custom shoutbox that uses files instead of the database that uses the smallest amount of space-bandwidth etc...
Surely you can make one of these yourself after all you are a web admin ¬_¬.
Disagree..

I am using http://mods.mybb.com/view/myshoutbox
And for 10-20 people chat, there is no such high CPU usage.
except you place the shoutbox in every page of threads Wink

It's all about your host problem.
I never heard Shared-hosting company allowed such "chat" program.
You have to move to another host company.
I'm using this one in my forum > http://community.mybb.com/thread-63559.html
I'm not sure how a shoutbox can be 'professional'.
