It would be most good to have a simple country flag icon appear in the users postbit area depending on what country they are from. I tried searching the site and found none and find that a bit sad heh.

You need to change compatibility. Change "14*" to "16*".

It's not my plugin but I agree that it can be optimized. Although, if at least one of your plugins is doing the same thing, I find it a bit hypocritical to criticize someone else's plugin. That's my opinion.

http://mods.mybb.com/view/country-flag-in-postbit is quite old but can be edited to work in 1.6.x. Yes I've tested and its confirmed. Though its not adding the Flag icon based on User's IP but its far more suitable to install if you want to make your forum less weight.
