I've tried using this mod http://mods.mybb.com/view/default-post-style

It's showing in the user CP all fine, but when I add codes to set as the default post is doesnt use them on a new post.

Any ideas?

A similar thing with the same plugin has been reported somewhere, (if I'm correct). So I think its a bug in there. You've to contact to the author though.
