I got Ubuntu installed up on this computer now, and it's working great except my headphones won't work with it for some reason. I was trying to mess around in Sound Pref's to see if I could do something to make it work but I can't Undecided

I was told I'm supposed to have a screen that looks like this in Sound pref's http://ubuntuforums.org/attachment.php?a...1307975016

But mine looks like this: http://i.imgur.com/CEp2R.png

As you can see it's missing the "Connector" setting.

Being the n00b that I am I can't figure out what I need to do Toungue

EDIT: Not sure if this makes a difference but... I'm running Ubuntu 10.04
Use Alsa instead of pulse audio.
Will this tutorial work for doing that?

EDIT: Found another tutorial that completly removes pulse audio and replaces it with Alsa I tried that, and it didn't work.
gnome-volume-control is my favourite.
Check the connector is set to Analogue Speakers.
If Alsa doesn't work try OSS aswell. PA is utter crap.
Doesn't PulseAudio use ALSA?

Also do your headphones work if you plug it into your sound card directly in the back of your computer? (if you're using a desktop)
I'm downgrading from 11.04 to 10.10 I'm going to see if that fixes anything.

Lol sorry for being a n00b but what do you mean?
Instead of the headphone jack plug it into where the speakers would go.
OSS doesn't work either Sad

Headphones are just speakers with a band connecting them, and they fit over your head o.o Sound is sound.
