I think this would best fit in this section
I run a Labrador based forum, and my current domain is lab-lovers.com I quite like the domain and think it suits the site but not really sure it's doing us any favours, I rank about 5th in google if I type Labrador forum if I type the domain lab lovers in google then I get 1st spot, but don't think that is what is typed in to google by the general public.
So the question is should I change it.
'Labrador forum' is a good search on Google.
A few others are 'Labrador Health', 'Labrador Food', and 'Labrador Pictures'. I suggest adding these to keywords or your index title.
Don't change the domain unless labradorforum.xxx is available.

Thanks I'll try add them in some where but i'm sure I've added slight variations of them in and unfortunately that domain is not available but slight variations are if some thing added on front or end.
I recommend if you're ever interested in searching keyword rankings, competition and searches per month, to rely on this tool:

https://adwords.google.com/o/Targeting/E...earch.none

For example, "labrador forums" receives 22,000 searches a month (globally).
"Labrador training" has 33,000 searches on a monthly basis.
"Labrador health" - 6,000 searches a month.
"Labrador food" - 9,900 searches monthly.
"Labrador pictures" - A whopping 49,500 searches.

Use the tool I provided to research good domain names, it doesn't matter if the domain has a - in it, it will still have the same SEO ability. Once you've found a good domain (.org,.net and .com), set a meta http equiv redirect to your main forum. Your domain will have a boost in SEO traffic. Add some QUALITY backlinks to your extra website(s) and all the traffic will add up in time.

I added the keywords in the title and now my ranking has gone down.

I'm not really sure how to use that tool and can't see how it would help choose a domain, but i did find out that labrador puppies getts 550,000 searches.
