Do you mean using the tab key to indent code in the templates? I'm afraid that's not possible as of now. CodePress (the syntax highlighter) does not allow that. This is going to change in MyBB 2.0 though.
I believe there are some browser plugins which you can use to enable the tab key in websites though.

if you want eight spaces between the words by using custom code then it is possible by using mycode.
OR a simple work around is possible by using a word as a bad word AND replacing with eight spaces
use this custom mycode for the indentation to paragraphs within posts : Tab indentation
